The Ancient World Online: A Paleography of the Book of Kemyt

Aurore Motte Tobias Konrad Svenja A. Recovery (Hrsg.), Kyra Van der Moeezel (Hrsg.), Ursula Verhoven (Hrsg.)

The book Kemyt is an ancient Egyptian school text that has been preserved on pottery shards, papyri, writing tablets, walls and hundreds of ostraca over a period of six centuries. The handwriting used is a special feature in addition to the usual hieratic and cursive hieroglyphic fonts. This volume presents for the first time the entire inventory of characters from more than 200 sources, which was created using digital methods, among other things. This first paleography of the book Kemyt now enables a synchronous and diachronic perspective as well as supra-regional comparisons. The PDF version is also linked to the online database for hieratic and italic hieroglyphs “AKU-PAL”.
