Exhibited on numerous occasions since the first discoveries of the last century, the architectural terracottas with molded figured frieze from the Acquarossa-Tuscania series are now included in all studies relating to palatial architecture and the princely ideology of archaic Etruria. Regarding the well-studied slabs of type A and B, where the myth of Hercules is invoked for the triumph of the dynast, the slabs C and D owe less attention to what distinguishes them: the refinement of the figurations and the quality of their style, due to the apparent banality of their subject – a banquet and a procession of dancers. The present study was born from this observation, which proposes a first critical edition of the figurative friezes, both graphic and photographic, followed by a detailed description of the festive scenes they show, including their polychromy. Accompanied by abundant unpublished iconography, the editorial work introduces three essays dedicated to the dating of the slabs, the iconography of the figurative friezes and their style. What emerges is a renewed vision of these images developed by the Etruscan aristocracy in the first half of the 6th century. BC, in contact with the Greek world and its near-eastern periphery.
